The museum is located in the prestigious Palazzo Lanfranchi and displays works of sacred medieval art, paintings on wood, wooden statues and polychrome stone of local masters, collected from different dioceses of Basilicata. 

The museum also hosts a selection of Neapolitan paintings of the seventeenth and eighteenth century from the collection of Camillo D'Errico in Palazzo San Gervasio, and other paintings of contemporary age authors such as Carlo Levi and Luigi Guerricchio as wekk as other temporary exhibitions.
