The Museum of Ancient Mint of Lucca is located in the Barracks of San Donato on the walls of the city. In addition to the museum there are the library, the laboratory, a workshop with historical antique machinery and the artistic fund Luigi Giorgi which constitute a valuable witness of the rich historical past of Lucca, documented by a wealth of valuable documents, coins and medals. The Mint of Lucca is in fact the oldest in Europe and one of the longest-lived: he wrought since 650 to 1843.

It recently resumed its activities coining coins identical to pieces in the history of Lucca. The objective of the Mint Museum is to promote the dissemination of historical and cultural activity deeply rooted in the city of Lucca, source of great prestige at international level.

At the entrance of the barracks is a guard with the typical costume of the seventeenth century, which bears witness to 150 years of stay in defense of the Government of the Serenissima Republic of Lucca.
