Start your trip to Cortona from one of its most scenic spots. We will meet in Piazza Garibaldi, a natural terrace overlooking the Valdichiana and Lake Trasimeno: here, with a breathtaking view, we will begin to tell the thousand-year history of this ancient Etruscan village, suspended between Tuscany and Umbria. From here, we will enter the heart of the historic old town, following the so-called "ruga", the main thoroughfare of the village, lined with historic buildings, small cafés, and craft shops. Walking along the cobbled streets, you will have the opportunity to truly immerse yourself in the atmosphere of Cortona: ancient doors, unexpected views, narrow alleys that suddenly open onto squares full of life. We will reach the two main squares, which are bustling with bars, restaurants, and local businesses. Here I will tell you anecdotes, interesting facts, and details about how the city evolved from the Etruscan era to the Middle Ages, becoming one of the most fascinating destinations in Tuscany. You'll get a better understanding of how the city is organized, so you can easily find your way around for the rest of your stay. During the tour, we will also visit some of the most important churches in the historic old town, true treasures of art and devotion. Inside, you'll discover works of art, architecture rich in symbols, and traces of the different eras that have shaped Cortona. There will be stops in front of local craft workshops and shops, where ancient crafts are still handed down today. Along the route, there will be little surprises: lesser-known viewpoints, details about the Etruscan walls, stories about the people who made Cortona famous around the world, as well as personalized tips on what to see and where to stop for food or shopping after the tour. The visit lasts about 2 hours and is designed to be an ideal introduction to the city: perfect to do as soon as you arrive, so you have a clear mental map and lots of suggestions for continuing to explore Cortona on your own. The tour takes place in a small group and can be adapted, when possible, to your interests: more history, more art, more insights into daily life in a Tuscan village. At the end of the experience, you will know not only the most iconic places, but also some lesser-known corners, and you will feel Cortona a little more like your own.
