Discover the secrets of breadmaking directly from a master baker in his bakery, where you will have the opportunity to participate in a hands-on workshop, learning how to make bread the old-fashioned way. At the end, let yourself be captivated by a generous tasting of typical baked goods, including bread, focaccia, and local pastries, for a journey through the town's authentic flavors and culinary traditions! The experience begins when you enter the workshop of a genuine historic bakery in Altamura that is still in operation, where you will be welcomed into an authentic setting steeped in tradition. To get into the spirit of the day, we will start with a tasting of a delicious frisella, one of the most traditional Apulian appetizers. After this initial tasting, there will be a detailed explanation of the stages involved in making the famous Altamura bread, allowing you to discover its secrets directly from a master baker. Drawing on his many years of experience, he will show you how the best flours are selected, how the dough is worked, and how the bread is prepared using sourdough, a key ingredient that gives Altamura bread its distinctive flavor. The wood-fired oven, the beating heart of traditional breadmaking, will be the star of the demonstration, giving you a better understanding of the process that brings to life one of the world's most beloved breads. Once the theoretical part is over, you will have the opportunity to “get your hands dirty” and will be invited to try your hand at making your own bread. Guided by the expert baker, you will be able to shape and form the bread, which you will then personally place in the wood-fired oven to bake, just as has been done every day for generations. After experiencing the magic of breadmaking firsthand, we will move on to the final part of the experience: the tasting. You will have the opportunity to enjoy a selection of freshly baked goods, including bread, focaccia, taralli, biscuits, and traditional local desserts, all prepared by the master baker and baked in the same wood-fired oven that has just baked your bread. Each bite will be a journey through the authentic flavors of Altamura, with products prepared using high-quality local ingredients and traditional methods, all accompanied by a fine local red wine. This experience aims to offer participants not only an encounter with the tradition of breadmaking but also an opportunity to connect directly with the rhythms and traditions of a community that has made bread its symbol.
